PUBLISHER’S MESSAGE M I D D L E E A S T “ That last page turned is a perfect excuse to write a whole new book. ” Teach Middle East Magazine ® TONI SORENSON EDITORIAL DIRECTOR Welcome to 2019! It is very easy at the start of a new year to look back at all the things that you did not accomplish the previous year. The new year may remind you of unaccomplished goals but it also presents the amazing opportunity to start again. This year you should let yourself off the hook and embrace all the potential and possibilities that this new year holds. We here at Teach Middle East Magazine are choosing to celebrate the things that went well in 2018 and you should too. We want to start the new year by expressing gratitude to our readership. We believe that we have the most amazing readers in the world. Even educators who have moved on from the region still read the magazine and send us their feedback from time to time. We are also grateful to our writers, who so willingly share their knowledge and expertise with our community. In 2019 our goal is to reach out more to our readers, to continue to highlight the good practice taking place in the region’s schools and to provide a platform where educators feel celebrated and appreciated. We will also be making sure we provide great Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities all throughout the year. The region’s list of amazing education events continues to grow and 2019 promises to be exceptional. We are looking forward to GESS Dubai 2019, The Middle East Maths Teachers Conference 2019 , The Finnish Education Expo Middle East, BETT Middle East, The Middle East School Leadership Conference, just to name a few. There will be many more events 06 | Jan - Feb 2019 | | taking place all across the region and we have dedicated an entire section of our website to keeping you up to date on these events. Head over to www.teachmiddleeastmag.com/ events for more details. Registration for The Middle East Maths Teachers Conference 2019 is now open, visit www.middleeastmaths.com to register and take advantage of the early-bird special which ends on January 31, 2019. Being able to visit and observe the good practice taking place in other schools is a very valuable thing for educators to do. However, it is not always possible for educators to do this, given the constraints of their timetables and the very busy nature of their jobs. The Featured School section of the magazine is designed to help give our readers a window into the good practice taking place in other schools. In this issue we take you into Repton School Abu Dhabi. We also bring you several articles and features to get you back on track as you start the new term and the new year. Do your students know how to identify “fake news”? Are you aware of the power of the use of dialogue in the classroom? These topics and more are covered in this jam packed issue. As you start the new term we invite you to share your journey with us. Interact with us on our various social media channels and join the conversation already taking place with like-minded educators. Follow us on twitter @teachmiddleeast, Facebook @TeachMiddleEastMagazine and on Instagram @Teachmiddleeast. Have a wonderful year!
