Welcome Message
Teachers, the leaders of
innovation and change
O
ver time teachers have worn
many hats; carer, counsellor,
facilitator, parent and friend
among others. We would
like to add another to the list, that of
innovator. Every successful teacher, is
an innovator.
Teachers are movers and shakers, the
group of people you can consistently
count on to drive an idea forward and
inspire their students and colleagues
to join in. They are not afraid to take
risks, if they believe it is for the good of
their students.
You might be saying to yourself, “Not
me, I’ll never invent the next electric
car”. But do not confuse innovation
with invention.
They are experimenters, always trying,
but never giving up, even in the face
of increasing constraints and changes.
Above all, they are persistent, yes, it
is often a long journey to realising the
dreams they have for their students,
but teachers have shown great
persistence even in the face of great
challenges.
Innovation is changing the way you do
and see things. It is asking yourself,
“How will I view my students differently
today than I did yesterday? How will I
approach this lesson, so that I inspire
my students to dig deeper and learn
more?” An innovator changes the
perspectives of others and helps them
to adopt new habits.
Teachers have been known for doing a
lot with very little. They have mastered
the art of making it all stretch, so that
no student feels left out, if this is not
the hallmark of a true innovator. I don’t
know wh ]]\˂
