-CREATING A TRULY INCLUSIVE PROVISION FOR SEND CHILDREN
BY : DAVID EVANS

When I first arrived in the UAE , the provision for students with learning difficulties was still going through a period of development . Schools were evolving to provide better quality learning for their most vulnerable children . Since then , schools across the emirates have transformed regarding the quality of care and support available to our students of determination . The UAE inspection framework ( 2015 ) and other educational reforms have helped improve the quality of provision for our most vulnerable learners .”

Al Dhafra Private Schools , Abu Dhabi , has a strong reputation in its community regarding their successful approaches to student care and support , which provide a genuinely inclusive school experience for their SEND students . The children identified on the learning support register are fully involved in the learning in lessons , extra-curricular activities , sporting events and student leadership initiatives . The school has also been involved in a range of partnerships and activities that have helped further enhance its community identity as an inclusive school . For example , during the Special Olympics , held in Abu Dhabi , Al Dhafra was the host school for Hungarian athletes . The school also partnered with the nearby Al Noor centre , which caters to severely disabled students . Our students arranged sporting and musical activities and events for the children at the centre .
Investment by the school ’ s owners into the staffing , building and resources available to the SEND department has also been pivotal to their success . “ By design , the facilities we have at Al Dhafra aim to celebrate the success and achievements of our SEND students . We have three designated , well-resourced achievement centres
