OVERVIEW
From December 2022 to September- October 2023 , Azerbaijan ’ s closure of the Lachin Corridor , the sole route connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the outside world , trapped 120,000 civilians , including 30,000 children . This blockade caused severe food shortages , disrupted access to heating and electricity , and led to the temporary closure of kindergartens and schools . The lack of medicine , freedom of movement , essential resources , power outages , and intermittent heating forced schools to shorten class times by up to 25 minutes when operational .

Throughout this challenging period , our Teacher-Leaders demonstrated exceptional resilience , continuing to teach in person and virtually and serving as pillars of leadership for their students and communities . To support their unwavering dedication , Teach For Armenia provided psychological support services upon request throughout the blockade .

Despite these challenges , 26 committed Teacher-Leaders , and two Teach For Armenia staff members remained in Artsakh throughout the blockade . However , two Teacher-Leaders , one Instructional Leader , and one staff member , previously based in Stepanakert , were unable to return to their placements in Artsakh from Armenia .
