Step Towards Home
In the summer of 2021 , Teach For Armenia partnered with the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia to host Քայլ դեպի տուն , the Step Towards Home Summer Camp . For the fourth year in a row , Teach For Armenia Alumni-Ambassadors curated the educational component of the camp , which aims to connect youth in the Diaspora with their peers and culture in Armenia . Between June 21st and August 13th , a total of 360 teens from
25 countries attended . Thirty-six Teach For Armenia Alumni-Ambassadors participated in planning and implementing all four two-week sessions of the camp .
The camp included Armenian language and history classes and field trips to 22 historical and cultural sites around Armenia . Participants chose a topic related to what they learned and worked collaboratively to design and organize a thematic event for their fellow campers . In total , students organized six different events : interactive theater , a quiz bowl , a vlogging contest , a scavenger hunt , a sports competition , a photo exhibition , and a talent show . In this way , students were at the helm of their learning experience and had the chance to initiate , create , and organize .
“ It ’ s an honor to be a Teach For Armenia Alumni-Ambassador for Educational Equity because it allows me to work with others to ensure that all students have access to education and become responsible citizens and the leaders of tomorrow .”
