School Placement
Currently , Teach For Armenia is working with a total of 171 teachers . This figure includes seventh-generation Teacher- Leaders who are in the first year of our Leadership Development Program , sixth-generation Teacher-Leaders who are in the second year of our Leadership Development Program , Instructional-Leaders , and Seroond teachers . In September 2021 , we began working in our ninth region of Armenia , the Syunik region , adding seven more communities to our reach – Tsav , Tasik , Aghitu , Lernadzor , Nrnadzor , Shvanidzor , and Svarants . Placing Teacher-Leaders in Syunik was a strategic decision to further expand into vulnerable borderline communities . Although the Artsakh war ended in a ceasefire in November 2020 , Syunik has become a new front in ongoing violations of that agreement by Azerbaijan .
We started the 2021-2022 school year by placing 120 new Teacher-Leaders in classrooms across Armenia and Artsakh . The size of our seventh cohort was 11 % higher than our anticipated target , and includes 38 Teacher-Leaders with STEM backgrounds and seven Teacher-Leaders from different countries – Russia , Lebanon , and Spain . Our seventh cohort of Teacher-Leaders also includes 42 current teachers or veteran teachers who join our program while remaining on staff in their current school communities .
This year , for the first time , we also placed nine Instructional-Leaders in communities . Instructional-Leaders are Alumni-Ambassadors who are trained to be “ teachers of teachers .” They are placed in school communities to teach students , but also to coach the teachers around them . Furthermore , we currently work with 53 teachers in our growing network of Seroond schools . Seroond is a leadership development pipeline that brings together veteran teachers and administrators and Teach For Armenia Alumni-Ambassadors to work towards whole-school transformation . Our partnerships with school communities are built on their feedback . In June 2021 , the Placement Team administered a survey to 76 of our partner schools . In their responses , 98 % of school principals expressed that they appreciate partnering with Teach For Armenia and would recommend the program to other schools . Over 90 % of principals indicated that Teach For Armenia Teacher-Leaders are team players who prioritize student leadership .
