Story of Impact From Aleppo , Syria to Medovka , Armenia : Betty Kilerjian ’ s Journey

“ I have always wanted to move to Armenia , and thanks to Teach For Armenia , that dream has come true . At the same time , I was anxious about living and working in a new country and community . Once I set foot in Medovka ’ s school building however , both teachers and students welcomed me warmly . I was put at ease at the beginning of one of the most important journeys of my life — teaching the children of Medovka .”
With an eagerness to provide excellent education to students , Betty Kilerjyan joined Teach For Armenia as part of our sixth generation of Teacher-Leaders . Betty is not new to the education field . She was Deputy Director of Karen Jeppe Armenian College in Aleppo , where 1,200 students were enrolled prior to the Syrian Civil War .
From the beginning , Betty knew that things would not be easy and that she would have to work hard to adapt to her new environment . “ No matter what their socio-economic background is , children deserve access to education that allows them to unlock their full potential . I am proud to be doing this work in my classroom in Medovka village .”
