Annual Report 2019
unprecedented in Armenia , I knew it was the kind of work I wanted to be doing . As I taught and learned from my students , I took it upon myself to conduct research on our education system and what could be improved . Being in the classroom gave me an inside look at the results of our institutions , and I realized this is what I wanted my life ’ s work to be .
As an Ambassador for Education Equity , I have continued my work in education , fueled by my experience at Teach For Armenia . I began to work as an Education Expert at the “ YES ” Armenia program , a one-year venture implemented by the Center of Strategic Initiatives and the EU delegation to Armenia . This program aimed to develop and introduce new educational policies that would change the teacher qualification and grading system by coordinating with the government , the Ministry of Education , and other stakeholders to foster a new culture of teaching in Armenia . In my own small way , I was able to lend my voice to systemic change .
In 2018 , I was nominated for the International Visitor Leadership Program on Accountability and Reforms in Education , one of the U . S . Department of State ’ s professional exchange programs . It gave me the opportunity to explore the United States education system , to have discussions with education sector representatives at various levels in the field , and to learn about their best practices . This visit solidified my pathway to work in education policy .
From there , I was hosted as an Education Expert at Armenia ’ s Ministry of Education , Science , Culture and Sport , working on designing policy for teacher qualifications , grading , and attestation in Armenia under the direct supervision of the Minister of Education .
Today , I am developing key reforms in the education sector through a program engaged by the Asian Development Bank to support the Ministry of Education .
I knew that my experience at Teach For Armenia would have a profound impact on me . What I didn ’ t know was that it was only the first step on a lifelong journey to bring about educational equity in Armenia .
