Annual Report 2019
I teach Physical Education at my school in Movses in the Tavush region . I also run a Dance Club , in which Armenian traditional dances form a big portion of what I teach . Little did I know that by engaging Gevorg through dance , he would open up and become an aspiring businessman !
Feeling that art could provide a creative outlet for my students , I also began a Pottery Club , allowing them to work with their hands . I fundraised 100,000 AMD to start the club and invited professional pottery friends of mine to give workshops to my students .
Gevorg was there at every meeting , sitting eagerly among the first students to arrive . I felt that there was more I could do to inspire students like Gevorg to unlock their potential and show them the power of possibility .
Armenian artists were excited about the idea of bringing artistic instruction to Armenia ’ s border regions . In collaboration with some of these artists , we brought three tons of clay to Movses , inspiring a project to develop a pottery studio for students in the border village . with clay in a studio with one of my friends . Upon returning to Movses , Gevorg was able to learn new skills and techniques at the newly opened studio , allowing him to teach his skills to other students in the community .
This new spark inspired Gevorg to read business books in his spare time , teaching him the necessary skills to run a small enterprise while improving his literacy . With all the proper ingredients for success in place , Gevorg began a thriving pottery business which allows him to contribute to his family .
There are only twenty pottery professionals in Armenia and Gevorg is the youngest among them .
I didn ' t know that my Dance Club would trigger such a positive awakening and that it would all begin with a single step .
Through further fundraising , Gevorg had the opportunity to visit Yerevan for a month and learn to work
