Neonatal Ventilators Market : Global Market Size, Industry Growth, Future
Prospects, Opportunities and Forecast 2019-2025
The introduction of ventilation is one of the major interventions in neonatology, which provides
lifesaving support for infants with respiratory failure. Neonatal ventilation has led to improve neonatal
survival rate, especially for preterm infants born with immature lung function. Increase in the number of
premature births with medical conditions such as respiratory disorder along a rise in neonate mortality
rates are the factors contributing to the demand for the neonatal ventilators market. With the arrival of
technology which will work as a non-invasive method also advancement in the already existing invasive
method, the adoption rate of the neonatal ventilators is increasing. However, neonatal ventilators can
cause chronic lung injury resulting in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Due to this, the neonatal
ventilator manufactures are making continued efforts to develop new technology, including the use of
early continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in preterm infants.
A neonatal ventilator comprises parts which include a circuit, gas delivery system, humid cation system,
source of oxygen and compressed air, monitors and an alarm system. Ventilators are bifurcated into
positive pressure ventilators and high-frequency oscillating ventilators. The positive pressure ventilator
blows air gently into neonatal’s lungs according to the need with the help of a tube that passes through
the nose or mouth and this inflates the lungs of the baby. While high-frequency oscillating ventilator
blows air quickly to the baby’s lungs as hundred times in a minute. A high-frequency oscillating
ventilator is used for some specific type of lung conditions such as Air leak syndromes, interstitial
emphysema, congenital diaphragmatic hernia and many more.
The US dominates the market in North America as the market is globally more receptive in adopting new
technologies. Out of emerging economies, China is the fastest growing region due to the increase in
population and changing concerns of healthcare services by the government as well as the individual.
The key service providers of neonatal ventilators include Medtronic PLC, GE Healthcare, CareFusion,
Hamilton Medical, Phillips Respironics, Smith Medical, Breas Medical, Drager Medical, ResMed and
Maquet.
