Expressing gratitude toward Charbonneau and beyond

This is November , so naturally our thoughts turn to Thanksgiving . Personally , I am so thankful we decided to move to Charbonneau . Most of us
NEWBORE who live here chose to live here for one or more of a multitude of reasons . One of our reasons was a better social life . Besides living in a relatively safe , beautiful area , we are most thankful for all the kind , helpful , wonderful people we have met here and the opportunity to interact with many of them . The veterans featured here also deserve special recognition , so a big thank you veterans .
The Activity Center is mostly complete on the outside and the schedule calls for the siding to be installed during the first two weeks of November . The majority of the work will then be ongoing on the inside . As a result , daily progress won ’ t show like it did during the framing stage . Work continues at a steady pace , nevertheless , and we are still expecting a February opening .
In other great news , Lux Sucre is expanding and has taken the space on the
west end of the retail space where the grocery store used to be . Lux owners , Chanelle and Brandon , plan to expand their bakery , add a deli , add alcoholic fares and feature both indoor and patio seating . They hope to be open by Dec . 1 . We are all looking forward to seeing the space revitalized and visiting their new store .
Our featured CCC Board member for November is Jim Gibbons .
Jim was among the early people I met in Charbonneau when we moved here . As he was taking my money at poker one night , I thought to myself , “ What an awesome guy .” Now , several years later , I still view him that way . The Golf Course-CCC Merger Agreement spelled out a liaison position to be the informational conduit between the Golf Course Board and the CCC Board . Jim volunteered for this position and for two years , he has been extremely helpful in letting both boards know what the other is doing . Jim moved to Charbonneau in 1999 because it was a nice neighborhood halfway between his wife , Kathy ’ s , teaching job in Beaverton and his job at the Oregon Golf Association ( OGA ) in Woodburn . He enjoys telling people that he has been here since the previous century ! He taught for a few years and then sold hospital operating room equipment for several years . He worked for the OGA as the executive director for the last part of his career and retired in 2008 . He likes Charbonneau because there is a lot to do here and “ one can get as involved as much as they wish to be .” He also remarks about how kind and thoughtful Charbonneau residents are . Jim loves golf and is an excellent player . His other big hobby is photography .
And finally , this is not an original list , but rather one sent to me that I thought I would share .
I am thankful :
■ For the wife who says it ’ s hot dogs tonight because she is home with me and not out somewhere else .
■ For the husband who is a couch potato because he is home with me and not out in bars .
■ For the mess to clean after a party because it means I have friends .
■ For the clothes that fit too tight because it means I have enough to eat .
■ For my shadow that watches me because it means I am out in sunshine .
■ For the lawn that needs mowing and the gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home .
■ For all the complaining I hear about government because it means I have freedom of speech .
■ For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and have transportation .
■ For the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear .
■ For my huge heating bill because it means I am warm .
■ For the pile of laundry because it means I have clothes to wear .
■ For my aching muscles because it means I am capable of working hard .
■ For the alarm that goes off early in the morning because it means I ’ m alive .
■ For too much email because it means I have friends who are thinking of me .
The list could go on and on , but you get the idea . Happy Thanksgiving everyone .
