This touring exhibition, organised by the
Royal Collection Trust, displays the
watercolours commissioned as souvenirs
from Queen Victoria’s momentous state visit
to Paris, in August 1855. All by various French
artists, they record the opulent surroundings
and pomp and pageantry of the royal visit. This exhibition brings together the results of a
secret operation of art fakes masterminded by
Sky Arts, top UK galleries and museums.
Seven copies of major works of art, which were
switched with their authentic counterparts in
prominent cultural exhibitions, will be displayed
together for the first time. This exhibition
follows Sky Arts 2017 television series, Fake!
The Great British Masterpiece Challenge, which
invited the public to suss out the copies.
This is a unique opportunity to engage with
these crafty masterpieces, while offering an
insight into the issue of fraud in the art world.
Queen Victoria was a passionate collector
of watercolours, compiling a sequence of
‘Souvenir Albums’ during her marriage to
Albert, which recorded their travels. Also on
display, are drawings by Queen Victoria of
the Paris tour.
Generously loaned by Her Majesty The Queen
from the Royal Collection.

This biennial celebration of the
visual arts being made locally
has become an important
part of the cultural landscape
for artists and art lovers alike.
Held between June 10 -18
this year, Cheltenham Open
Studios 2017, the open-door-
to-door art trail, features over
200 artists working from 65
venues in Cheltenham and
its surrounds. This exhibition
offers a foretaste of some of
the work that will be on show. Painter and classical violinist,
Angie Spencer presents
her series of landscapes
inspired by the quartets of
Shostakovich and Philip Glass
to coincide with the 2017
Cheltenham Music Festival.
The current displays form part
of our A Sense of Place series,
running until 1 October 2017.

Angie studies violin
with Carducci Quartet
violinist Matthew Denton,
and it was through the
quartet’s enthusiasm for
Angie’s paintings that the
Shostakovich series was
originally created for their
