P6 Trip to Stanley Mills (report by Holly Grant and Eilidh Williams) On Tuesday 18 March P6R went on a school trip to Stanley Mills. We went there to learn about the people that worked there and what type of jobs they did. Lots of the workers at the cotton mill were highlanders who had been evicted from their homes and had had to move away. When we arrived off the bus we took a look around and were shown some of the rooms where people had worked. We also did some activities like making sentences using Gaelic words and we also did a quiz. On our trip we learnt about what life was like working in a cotton mill. We even learnt some Gaelic words to make up a sentence and we learnt about the Duke of Atholl and how he made the Mill next to the River Tay. We did lots of activities at Stanley Mills and had lots of fun. We worked at machines with waterwheels and played outside at lunch. We drew sketches of the building outside before we left. We all had an amazing time. Website Contact us S2 Gleneagles Hospitality Day – Tuesday 4 March On Tuesday 4 March the Home Economics Department welcomed staff from The Gleneagles Hotel who delivered seven different workshops to all pupils in S2. The workshops were varied to show the Hospitality Industry in its widest form. Each presenter talked to the young people about a typical day in their work, their qualifications and experiences that brought them to this work, and how their career path could progress. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day as they made and tasted mocktails, made omelettes and handcrafted chocolates, practised their golf swing, laid tables, watched Crepes Suzettes being made, gave each other hand massages and much more. The day was a great success with excellent feedback from the school staff, Gleneagles staff and the pupils. The Home Economics Department was very pleased with the way the day went and were full of praise for the good behaviour of the pupils and the interest that they showed during the activities. School staff are also extremely grateful to the staff from the Hotel who gave their time and expertise so willingly and really engaged with the pupils and made the day so successful. Twitter
