The Community School of Auchterarder
August Newsletter 2013
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you have had an enjoyable summer. At school we are all back in the swing of things; it has been an incredibly busy start to the term. I am delighted to report that our exam results in secondary were excellent, some of the best performances we've seen for a number of departments. We are certainly punching above our weight with almost all of our results higher than the Perth and Kinross average. That, of course, is thanks to the hard work and determination of our fabulous pupils, staff and parents. Thank you and well done to everyone involved. We are very excited about the Ryder Cup coming to town next year, and even more excited that the national education resource will be launched here at school on 24 September this year! The resource is a suite of golf-themed lessons, partially developed by pupils in our school, which will be available for children from 3 to 18 years around the country to use. The world's media, including BBC, ITV and Sky, are expected to be in school on that day as well as ministerial representation from the Scottish Government, the captains of the Ryder Cup teams and even the cup itself! With learning across the school focused on golf themes, it really will be an exciting day. Also launched this term was our Wider Achievement Programme for P7 to S6 where pupils engage every Wednesday afternoon in learning that is not usually available through the 'regular' curriculum. This is an ambitious undertaking which is drawing a lot of interest from others; we hope it will develop to be a unique part of what we do at The Community School of Auchterarder. We send out daily information about the great things that go on in our school via Twitter. Why not join in and follow us? Just use the link on the right of the newsletter. The team here look forward to welcoming you into school very soon.
