TCR Playbills The Last Five Years Playbill | Page 4
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR...
The Last Five Years is a
recalling of memories. It’s
reminiscing on the good (and bad)
times. It’s examining one
relationship and how it functions
from two different perspectives.
The idea of time is present, yet
almost non-existent in this show.
Reflection generally makes you see
things in a different way. Cathy
and Jamie take you through a
journey and give you a new look at
their memories.
It’s kind of funny that this
show came up when it did.
Because for “the last five years”
(no pun intended), I’ve been
involved at TCR. Starting as a
volunteer--acting in shows and
volunteering at events. And now
I’m working at TCR as the Audience
Engagement Specialist and
directing a show in one of my most
loved spaces, The Grandon Studio.
The interesting part about
the relationship of The Last Five
Years and thinking about life in
general... you never know where
your ending will be to your
separate life stories. I never
expected to be where I am today,
and I’m sure Jamie and Cathy
never expected to be where they
were in their relationship.
“All kinds of unforeseen events wait
lurking to surprise you and make
you glad you’re alive.”
-Jack Kerouac
I challenge you to open
yourself up to this story from all
of it’s different perspectives. With
such a talented cast, crew, and
orchestra, it should be pretty simple
to do. You never know what’s
coming in life...be open to it.
Enjoy the show!
