PLANTS and FOLIAGE
For me , plants and foliage are an essential element of any home : they bring an interior to life . Even better , they absorb carbon dioxide and are
removing pollutants and toxins such as formaldehyde . I leave my plants to grow freely – I don ’ t like anything too manicured or too neat , preferring
favourites are scented geraniums for their wonderful perfume , Sparmannia africana for its large , light green leaves and Muehlenbeckia complexa , which grows with great vigour and has a dense tangle of dark stems . In the natural home , foliage or flowers should be as close to nature as possible : think of a long branch studded with blossom in spring , an armful of flowering grasses in summer , and bare , leafless twigs in autumn .

DISPLAY
I think I have always been a collector of things – both items that I have inherited and also objects picked up on my travels and kept as mementoes of a particular time and place . In addition , I spend a lot of time visiting antique shops and flea markets looking for interesting objects for my work , and I often stumble across irresistible treasures that I can ’ t resist buying for my own home . One of my favourite pastimes is creating still lifes and displays that showcase my collections . A display can be made out of anything you like , whether it be a collection of items that share a common theme ( like animals or fans or African carvings ) or random things you have amassed over the years . →
