Commandment 1:
Have the proper tools for social networking.
- Use your photo, not a logo, for your profile picture. The exception is if you are part of a franchise that requires use of the logo. If you use a logo it will take much longer to build trust in social networkers. People do business with people first, brands second.
- Use applications to make it easy and clear to contact you. Just as you pass out a business card with name and contact information , you need to let people know how to contact you in an easy way.
- Use your Facebook page to network. An impactful cover photo that speaks to your emotional based marketing and a well written “About” section can solidify or detract from your professional image.

4 TBBA Building Barometer
Commandment 1, from The 10 Commandments of Social Networking
must be
present to win
I'm often asked by new members to our council what is the best way
to connect with members. The TBBA itself schedules and hosts
many events throughout the year in addition to the council specific
events and premium, cross-council events events like the Parade of
Homes. As a member of the Remodelers Council, the bare minimum you can do to get involved is attend monthly RMC meetings. In addition to getting great advice on how to innovate your business, it's the best opportunity to market yourself to the council and build that referral database. Many RMC members elect to refer leads exclusively to council members but they can't do that if they don't know you.
The other side of attendance is that we have many members who never attend a single event. As a result they miss out on the opportunity to meet and interact with the general contractors, cabinet dealers, designers and more that attend these events. I have concern for these members. If they joined our council to expand their company profile but fail to see success, they may chose leave the council. This in turn hurts both them and us and limits our ability to grow. In short, we need you.
If you are considering joining the RMC or are a member that has been reluctant to check out a meeting lately I'd love to hear from you. Or better yet, our next council meeting is on Thursday, September 19th at ProSource on Anderson. John Heagney will be presenting public relations tactics. I'd love to see you there!
Tiffanie Kellog of the Referal Institute was the guest speaker at the Remodelers Council Meeting in July and provided the 10 Commandments of Social Netoworking to share in the TBBA Barometer.
