Interview By Patrick And Melinda with Rui Alexandre -Guitars

I had a chance to listen to the newest album, The Empire Strikes Black, and I must say, it's a powerful ride from start to finish. From the original rough demo's of the guitar riffs, vocal ideas, bass lines, and drumming parts, how far or how close to the original ideas did the album end up changing or staying the same? Did this album turn out 100% exactly the way you and the band had hoped it would?

Thanks! Well, we create most of our stuff during rehearsals, so the songs shape up gradually from their first riffs until they reach their final form. When we hit the studio, the songs only need a few touches, here and there. It does sound like we hope it would, which means we worked with the right people.

In a previous interview you stated that this world is fucked, that our own planet is being destroyed before our very eyes, but that no one was brave enough to stand up to those who were bringing us all to total destruction. Who were you speaking of? Who do you feel is at fault for all of this?

War has been plaguing nations with debt for quite a long time, now. Large corporations keep destroying the environment for also a long time now, too. It’s interesting to see how the owners of these two major industries manage to enslave and terrify entire nations while destroying our own planet with total impunity for centuries. This is unacceptable. When you see the people revolt in the streets or fight authority, these are just symptoms of a sick society. Something’s not right. The world won’t become a better place until we destroy those few who destroy us all.

What is the hardest song to play off of the new album? What song has the most intricate guitar riffs and solos?

We don’t tend to write stuff that’s beyond our limitations, just to sound good on record. Still, the closing section of the last song (“Break the Cycle”) has got to be the most technical stuff on the record. Continued next page>>>
