Silent Line-Shattered Shores

★★★★★★★★

With the ultra-talented Jens Bogren handling the mastering on 'Shattered Shores', you will be amazed with the direction the band is going. Stepping into a new turf, SL deliver a concept album that truly crushes from top to bottom. The story is about a man deserted on an island in which the shores are eroding. Symbols in the forms of Dark, Snow, Storm, Hopelessness are recurring. Impressive, melody driven guitars by Randy Bergh, guttural vocals, ala Mike Burton, who adds secondary guitar work, as well and punching bass lines by Andy Sidloski, mixed with the occasional clean singing and awe-inspiring synths make for a top notch Metal release. Underrated drummer, Adam Kallstrom, rounds out the lineup. Every song is packed with beauty. SL have always been influenced by the Gothenburg sound, and on 'Shattered Shores', they succeed in attaining their goal. It still wows me that they are an unsigned act.

Chiral-Night Sky

★★★★★

Chiral is a Black Metal band from Italy and their new CD is called "Night Sky". It begins with a melody reminiscent of Opeth and very beautiful with duel acoustic guitars and heaviness that brings about a calm of chaos. However, the guitars are too high and the rest of the instruments take a backseat in being able to clearly decipher all of the instruments from the acoustic guitars, at least for the first song. However, Chiral does manage to blend all of the instruments into this mellow folk composition. The duel guitar harmonies are so well orchestrated that you have to take a seat and let the music almost wash over you like waves. Night Sky is a metal CD that you probably always wanted to be able to hear but so few bands are creative enough to create such majestic pieces. Even Opeth disappoints at times but Chiral is more creative and serves as a beacon for those that want to remain loyal to the Black Metal scene but want to explore their creative side. By Aeonis
