You just released the new album, how has the response been? Is the band excited? What's in the works for Chastain now?

David T. Chastain: So far the response has been amazing. Leather our vocalist is very excited about the new album. I don't judge a new album until a year or so down the road. At this point I have probably heard it 1000 times since its inception... so I don't have an objective mind for it at present.

year or so down the road. At this point I have probably heard it 1000 times since its inception... so I don't have an objective mind for it at present.

What is the atmosphere like when in the studio when Chastain records an album, are things more tense relaxed? Does the music flow out from all of you easily, is there constant instant chemistry? Do you all still strike like a bolt of lightning when the music begins? Or do you have to work at it?

David T. Chastain: It is very easy for me to write music. It takes awhile for lyrics that satisfy me. After 1000 songs I have a hard time coming up with something new to say... or at least say it in a new way. To me, I am happiest in the studio. There is no pressure for me.

You've gone practically all over the rock and metal spectrum, is there something that you have not tried yet that your itching to try?

David T. Chastain: I would like to release a Cd that is one 45 minute song that goes to numerous places. Also I would like to compose some classical piano pieces that roam thru my head on a daily basis.

What's one musician in any genre that you would want to collaborate with on a song or an album, and why?

David T. Chastain: I have been pretty fortunate in that I have always had great musicians play on my Cds. So there is no one out there I feel I have to work with at this point. I always thought a song or two with Ronnie James Dio could have been special. There are many musicians out there I admire but I really only want to play my music. I don't enjoy playing other's music for some reason. When one has 100s of hours of music backed up that no one will ever hear... adding someone else's to the mix isn't logical.

When's the dust settles on your career and your possibly too old to play music any more, what do you hope to have accomplished with your career as a musician and producer? How do you want to be remembered?

David T. Chastain: Someone who didn't kneel down to trends and popularity. One who did what they did no matter the consequences. I would like to think my music was somewhat unique.
