The Prodigal Son
“ But when he was still a great way off , his father saw him and had compassion , and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him ." ( Luke 15 : 20 ). In the story of the Prodigal son , the father divided his live hood for his two sons . The Prodigal Son left his father ’ s house and went to a far-off land . In that place , he lived aimlessly and wasted all the wealth his father gave him . When he spent it all , a famine struck the place where he was and he began to starve . he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country , who sent him into his fields to feed pigs . He wanted to eat the food that are for the pigs , but nobody would give him . He began to see how meaningless his own life became and remembered his father ’ s house . He remembered the abundance of love and blessings that existed there .
He had everything he could wish for and plenty of it . He remembered that even the servants of the household
had food and drinks in great quantity . True repentance began to form from within . He repented considering himself not worthy to be a son . He had the courage and the strength to begin his journey home ! The father saw his son although he was still a great way off ran and fell on his son ’ s neck and kissed him . He had compassion on his son and welcomed him . That great father forgave his son considering him as a
39 beloved son . This parable demonstrates the unconditional and unlimited love of our Lord God . The heavenly father is waiting for us ready to accept us . The Lord is longing eagerly for our repentance . Our heavenly father adopts those who believe in Him , and He calls us His children . He grants us always according to His great mercy and compassion . In this distant country , far removed from God , there ’ s always a famine , because the earth can ’ t satisfy someone who ’ s hungry . Therefore , our beautiful church arranged for us seven sacraments and one of them is the sacrament of repentance and confession . We need to return and live in our Father ' s kingdom where love and peace rule .
