Tanzania The Promised Land
Kinyongia msuyae is new species of chameleon which
was found in the Udzungwa Mountains and Southern
Highlands areas of Tanzania in 2016. This brown and
green specimen is identifiable by its scattered blue
spots. The scientific name of this new reptile, Kinyongia
msuyae, honors Tanzanian biologist Charles A. Msuya,
who spent much of his life describing reptiles and
amphibians within the country.
Udzungwa partridge is a small, approximately
29 centimetres (11 inches) long, boldly barred,
brownish partridge with rufous face, grey
underparts, olive-brown crown and
upperparts. It has a red bill, brown iris and
yellow legs. Both sexes are similar.
Discovered only in 1991, this endangered
species was first noticed because it’s
pair of strange feet were noticed in a
cooking pot in a Tanzanian forest camp.
It inhabits and is endemic to forests of
the Udzungwa Mountains in Tanzania.
