Fossils for the Tallest and Heaviest Dinosaurs in the World were found in Tanzania
Teleocrater rhadinus , from the Middle Triassic epoch of Tanzania was a lightly built , four-legged carnivore . It looked more like a crocodile than the small animals who used two legs to walk , which are often associated with dinosaurs at this point of evolution . The Tendaguru Formation or Tendaguru Beds are a fossilrich formation in Tanzania . It has been considered the richest of Late Jurassic strata in Africa . Continental reconstructions show Tendaguru to have been in the southern hemisphere during the Late Jurassic . The tallest and heaviest dinosaur unearthed with good skeletons is the Giraffatitan brancai ( previously classified as a species of Brachiosaurus ). Its remains were discovered in Tanzania between 1907 and 1912 . Thought-out the years dozens of dinosaur fossils have been dug from Tanzania and scientists discover new species here which have made them rethink some of the common theories about these huge creatures . Shingopana ( meaning “ wide neck ”) is a genus of titanosaurian sauropod from the Middle Cretaceous of Tanzania .
