The Road to Recovery

-A Cultural Overview on the People of Mali by Shayla Crowell-

Remember the horrible tragedy on "September 11th 2001"(18), two planes that had been held hostage by terrorist, hit the twin towers in New York, well that same group Al Qaeda a muslim group of terrorist have been taking over Mali since September 10th 2012, the French came into "Mali and liberated Islamist because of citizens living under the law of Sharia. Sharia kept woman from expressing their feelings like wearing makeup and having to leave the house with a veil on. Some of the other laws include horrible actions like; when punished for theft by law your right hand would be amputated, a non-muslim man who marries a muslim woman is punished by death, and a man is illegally allowed to beat his wife for refusing to do anything, with breaking any law of Sharia the penalty involves death." (4) "The French successfully liberated Mali and decided to withdraw from Mali for domestic political reasoning."(18) The effect of the French pulling out will affect the violence level in Mali yet again, and will change the wealth because of the French financing many weapons and making sure the government stays funded. Recently the French troops moved to the south because of lacking of both logistical support and funding sources. The terrorist group had descended but are not dead but the last thing in mind for Mali is worrying about terrorists. Now Malians are in trouble because of the effect, they have been left in camps outside of the country or displaced, and prone to diseases to lacking of a nutritious diet. There are more than 150,000 refugees living in the neighboring countries. The refugees are unsettled and unknowning of when the journey to return home will at last be ended.
