Monsanto, a seed company that has been genetically modifying seeds for years has said that the seeds sent to Africa will go royalty-free to the farmers.(Health Research Funding, 2013)

The main focus of this argument should be keeping families from starving, not on the farmers getting taken advantage of. Both are issues, it just comes down to the importance of the two.We believe that the right thing in this situation is to start using Genetically Modified crops. There is an argument saying that if Genetically Modified crops were the way to go, then Europe would be using them. Europe is not facing a famine like the people of Tanzania, so there is no urgency there to produce a higher crop yield, besides the fact that there is more money to be made. In Tanzania, they are facing a famine, so they need to be able to produce as much corn as possible, which is most possible with the genetically modified corn. (Simbeye,2013)

Every solution has its flaws, including the argument about genetically modified corn, but it is currently the best solution to the food crisis in Tanzania.

" Many families in Engaruka remain perilously close to starvation after recent droughts destroyed crops and killed 65 percent of the livestock."(Schmickle, 2013)
