Dear Readers,
Welcome to the October 2013 edition of Tank Talk. This is not only the ?rst publication for the year
but also the ?rst edited by me, Brendan Ferguson. You will notice several changes in the format,
layout, content and presentation of the newsletter, hopefully for the better but we are always open to
feedback. This edition we’re excited to introduce several new features, such as the photo gallery and
an increased saltwater presence, as well as continue the traditional articles and reports.
Since the last edition we have seen a steady increase in members as well as some new faces in the
form of CDAS sponsors. We have also seen a surge in participation through facebook (link below)
which has not only become the main hub for activity outside of the monthly meetings but has
encouraged new members into the fold.
As for the content we were spoiled for choice with several quality talks that occurred during the
meetings. Inside you will ?nd articles covering a diverse range of topics including combating algae
in nano tanks, a unique ?ltering solution in Hamburg Matten ?lters, as well as how to make the leap
from freshwater tanks to keeping your very own marine tank. Our species pro?les continue under a
new, briefer format and we introduce an FAQ section that takes some of the best questions from the
forums or facebook to be answered by experienced members. Be sure to check out the gallery and
front cover photography by CDAS member Matthew Willis as well as the stunning macro
photography by Tommy (aka watfish on AL) in the species pro?le section.
I look forward to continued support for Tank Talk and sustained improvement of the content. With
the new social media presence I hope for an increase in contributions through both facebook and the
forums. A well maintained Tank Talk newsletter should allow us to continue our promotion of
responsible ?shkeeping and ensure the health of the club and community.
Sincerely,
Brendan Ferguson
