Food and drinks were ordered by phone , and they all had red velveteen curtains that could be drawn to cover its interior . Another fine detail was the heated swimming pool , where young swimmers carried out aquatic games for people amusement .
Several orchestras gave life to Chantecler nights . But the most outstanding one was the great Juan D ’ Arienzo ’ s . For many years his orchestra was people ’ s favorite , especially for those lovers of tango dancing .
The Chantecler dressed in tango with percale clothes and wisteria perfume , D ’ Arienzo arrived with his music of rank and the lantern lights that illuminate the corners .
In 1935 , musician and pianist Rodolfo Biagi joins the master ’ s orchestra and leaves the 4x8 beat , to take over the primitive 2x4 , highlighting the beats with Biagi ’ s piano , who was the creator of this mode . This change resulted in a huge success among dancers who deeply missed 2x4 . Somebody said : “ D ’ Arienzo gave wings to dancers ’ feet ”. For this , he was nicknamed “ El Rey del Compás ” (“ The Beat King ”) by Ángel Sánchez Carreño , alias “ El Príncipe Cubano ” (“ The Cuban Prince ”), name given by Madame Ritana .
And how was it that Madame Ritana and her husband Garesio became the Chantecler owners ? It is said that a French man called Charles Seguin , who owned the place , and also the Tabarís , the Casino , and many other places , had hired as a number for the opening night of the place , a group of Corsican trapeze artists , and Garesio was one of them . He began to work with Seguin , and slowly conquered his trust , then began to collaborate in the business administrations . Apparently , this businessman , who was quite old and enjoyed good life , felt very pleased with Garesio ’ s development , who finally took over the business management , and as the French man had no heirs , everything ended up in the couple ’ s hands .
