news New cookery school at the River Cottage Ambrette: Restaurant of the Year  With the Kent inspired Taste of Kent Awards 2013 taking place recently, Margate's The Ambrette picked up the coveted Kent Restaurant of the Year award.  With ten companies being awarded Taste of Kent Awards for the first time, the 2013 awards have attracted a fresh generation of rising talent.  Two of the categories which annually create some of the greatest public interest, were won by newcomers with The Ambrette in Margate picking up the Kent Restaurant of the Year and with its “well balanced menu, use of local seasonal ingredients, its lovely ambience and a contemporary marriage of Indian and English food”, whilst The George Inn won in the dining pub category. Chef-patron Dev Biswal of Ambrette said after the win: "This corner of England is blessed with some of the best food and drink produce available anywhere in the world." The 2013 Taste of Kent Awards has once again been made possible by the overall sponsorship of Vertex Law. James Beatton, one of its partners, said: “It was with great pride that Vertex Law sponsored the Taste of Kent Awards again this year; the standard of entries was exceptional. The food sector in Kent is clearly still in good health.”  BBC centre to include restaurants Plans for the redevelopment of the BBC Television Centre in White City include a proposal to convert part of the property into a 50-bedroom hotel. Property developer Stanhope, which bought the TV Centre from the broadcaster, is revealing additional plans for the 14-acre property, including opening up spaces for restaurants and cafés. While Stanhope continues to lease out the venue to the BBC, current plans aim to turn the centre into a mixed-use development. The BBC will continue to have office and TV studio space on top of the proposed entertainment and leisure facilities, offices, housing 20 T A N D O O R I and public open space. It is the inner ring of the centre that will become a hotel, which will include room for residential apartments, and part of the famous glass circular portion of the building will see it turned into a 50-bedroom boutique venue.
