Ambrette: Restaurant of the Year
With the Kent inspired Taste of Kent Awards
2013 taking place recently, Margate's The
Ambrette picked up the coveted Kent
Restaurant of the Year award.
With ten companies being awarded Taste
of Kent Awards for the first time, the 2013
awards have attracted a fresh generation of
rising talent.
Two of the categories which annually
create some of the greatest public
interest, were won by newcomers with
The Ambrette in Margate picking up the
Kent Restaurant of the Year and with its
“well balanced menu, use of local seasonal
ingredients, its lovely ambience and a
contemporary marriage of Indian and
English food”, whilst The George Inn won
in the dining pub category.
Chef-patron Dev Biswal of Ambrette said
after the win: "This corner of England is
blessed with some of the best food and drink
produce available anywhere in the world."
The 2013 Taste of Kent Awards has once
again been made possible by the overall
sponsorship of Vertex Law. James Beatton,
one of its partners, said: “It was with great
pride that Vertex Law sponsored the Taste of
Kent Awards again this year; the standard of
entries was exceptional. The food sector in
Kent is clearly still in good health.”
BBC centre to include restaurants
Plans for the redevelopment of the BBC
Television Centre in White City include a
proposal to convert part of the property into
a 50-bedroom hotel. Property developer
Stanhope, which bought the TV Centre from
the broadcaster, is revealing additional plans
for the 14-acre property, including opening up
spaces for restaurants and cafés.
While Stanhope continues to lease out the
venue to the BBC, current plans aim to turn
the centre into a mixed-use development.
The BBC will continue to have office and TV
studio space on top of the proposed entertainment and leisure facilities, offices, housing
20 T A N D O O R I
and public open space. It is the inner ring of
the centre that will become a hotel, which will
include room for residential apartments, and
part of the famous glass circular portion of the
building will see it turned into a 50-bedroom
boutique venue.
The hub of the centre is expected to feature a
number of public uses, including restaurants
and cafés. The development is the latest in a
