President Duterte graces
Cooperative Movement
in the Philippines’ 103rd
anniversary

MALACAÑANG -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on
Wednesday, October 17, recognized the importance of the
role cooperatives play in nation-building, noting they are
vital partners of government in development.
“As we mark this milestone, may our cooperatives continue
to demonstrate the time-honored spirit of ‘bayanihan’ by
promoting a deeper sense of solidarity and cooperation
among your members and beneficiaries,” the President said
in his speech during the 103rd anniversary of Cooperative
Movement in the Philippines.
“Let us sustain our reforms and march on towards the
realization of our individual and collective aspirations,” he
said.
The Chief Executive underscored the importance of coops
in the country’s progress. “Nation-building is no easy
task, and it is not the responsibility of government alone.
That is why, we are here fortunate to have the cooperative
movement as our partner in this endeavor.”
During his speech, the President also touched other issues
that confront the country today, and the government’s
thrust to solve these predicaments such as the fight against
illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.
President Duterte Renewed Commitment to
Protect the Uniformed Personnel
Meanwhile, President Duterte graces the Armed
Forces of the Philippines’ 49th Anniversary of the Office of
the AFP Sergeant Major and the 22nd Non-Commissioned
Officers Day.
The Chief Executive, during his speech, reiterated
his commitment to the security forces that he would protect
them as long as they perform their duty under the law.
“I am not after any personal loyalty. Just focus
on your loyalty doon sa flag, and that is the Constitution,”
President Duterte cited.
“[I’m not trying to] ingratiate myself na mag-
diktador. You know, when my time is up, I’m going to step
down,” he added.
During the event, President Duterte conferred the
Order of Lapu-Lapu with the Rank of Kamagi to officers
who were deployed during the Marawi Siege.
The recipients of the Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kamagi
medals were FCMS Romeo Jandugan (Ret.), FCMS Lito
Tompayogan, SMS Engracio Gabo, SMS Manuel Lizada,
SMS Eddie Arandid, SMS Lenio Abrio, SMS Richard
Dalit, SMS Kenneth Paul Dulawan, SMS Benedicto
Estanes, and SCPO Mario Vasquez.
Medals were also awarded to MSG Adryl Bolivar,
MSG Rogelio Arcebutche, MSG Bruno Santowen, MSG
Rolly Principe, MSG Fernando De Mesa, MSG Fernando
Alvin Dioneda, and MSG Ramon Bejo.
The Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kamagi is
given to government officials, government employees,
and private individuals in recognition of their active
participation in the campaign and advocacy of the
administration.
DSWD receives seized
goods for families
affected by ‘Ompong’

MANILA-- The Department of Social Welfare and Development
(DSWD) received shoes, brand new and used clothing that were
seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) last month for distribution
to families affected by Typhoon Ompong.
DSWD acting Secretary Virginia N. Orogo and DSWD
Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Hope
V. Hervilla received the seized goods from BOC Commissioner
Isidro Lapeña and District Collector Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria
at the BOC warehouse at the port area in the city of Manila. The
items which were turned over included two containers of 130
bales of used clothes, 32 boxes of new shoes, and five bales of
new t-shirts.
In order to assure that the items will not pose health hazards,
DSWD and BOC personnel held a one-week inspection to check
all the items, especially the used clothing, before turning over the
items for distribution to ‘Ompong’ survivors in the northern parts
of Luzon. The items will also be subjected for fumigation to ensure
the safety of the recipients.
“We are very thankful for the donations for the victims of Typhoon
Ompong and other calamities. We have directed all our regional
offices that upon arrival of the donations, they will go directly to
the beneficiaries for distribution,” Orogo said. (PIA-NCR)
MOLDING THE YOUTH
TO BE A SUCCESSFUL
ENTREPRENEUR
In its aim to promote a sustainable economic development in
the community and to impart the effectiveness of having a well-
developed and innovative entrepreneurial mindset, the Provincial
Government of Cavite (PGC) headed by Governor Boying Remulla
thru the Provincial Cooperative Livelihood and Entrepreneurial
Development Office (PCLEDO) once again organized the Cavite
Entrepreneurship Students Forum with the theme: “Entrepreneurial
Mindset: Unleashing the Power of Today’s Generation” on October
04, 2018 at Cavite State University- Indang Campus.
Almost 800 participants comprised of business administration,
entrepreneurship and marketing students accompanied by their
professors which came from different colleges and universities in
the province have attended the forum driven by the desire to gather
some tips and inspiration from successful entrepreneurs.
During the program, Mr. Alvin S. Mojica, head of PCLEDO
warmly welcomed all the attendees and encouraged everyone to be
an entrepreneur as it may give a chance to budding businessmen
a non-limit income. Likewise, Indang Councilor Crispin Diego
“Ping” Remulla delivered an inspirational message on behalf
of Gov. Boying Remulla. On the other hand, Ms. Liza Gabatan,
Entrepreneurial Division Head of PCLEDO discussed a brief
overview of the Cavite Entrepreneurship Students Forum.
Meanwhile, Mr. Roberto R. Castañeda, CEO and Founder
of Don Roberto’s Winery Corporation elaborated the topic “The
Entrepreneurial Mindset: Entrepreneurship and Innovation”. The
aspiring entrepreneurs were educated on the importance of having a
positive outlook in life, incomparable passion and upright sense of
time.
Afternoon session was comprised of two sets of fora
wherein students raised their queries and gathered some useful
advices from the panelists as they build their own businesses. First
forum covered the topic “Towards Entrepreneurial Success: Their
Testimonies and Challenges” which was facilitated by Ms. Virginia
Malipol (Owner, Amira’s Buco Tart Haus), Ms. Ma. Isabel Punzalan
(President, Delfa’s Food Products, Inc.), Ms. Bing Angeles (Owner,
Ocean Fresh Tahong Chips) and Mr. Ericson Atanacio (President,
Terre Verde Ecofarm, Inc) and moderated by Ms. Sheryll Loyola,
Livelihood Division Head of PCLEDO. The second forum talked
about “Getting Started: Young Entrepreneurs’ Insights and Advice”
joined by Mr. Keith Varias (Owner, Chicoi Solutions Computer
Services), Mr. Marc Hermes Sumulong (Owner, Greenshop
Ecopreneurs and Unit Manager, Sun Life Phils.), Ms. Madonna
Rolle (Owner, Zenith Events Management) and Ms. Noreen Claire
Legaspi (Founder/Creative Director, Lit Digital) and moderated by
Ms. Janice Burgos-Diesta, Sr. Cooperative Development Specialist
of PCLEDO. Provincial Dir. Noly Guevara of DTI-Cavite was also
present in the event on behalf of Vice Governor Jolo Revilla who
gave an advice in creating a product which should be the demand
of the market and instructed the participants to learn on adopting the
changes and innovation of the desired industry.
Highlight of the event was the Trade Fair Exhibit of eco-
friendly products made by the students from various colleges and
universities in Cavite. STI College-Dasma was awarded 1st Place
for the Most Promising Product followed by PUP-Maragondon and
CVSU-Indang, respectively.
