Training Package: Basic Level para sa 27
service providers at Persons with Disabilities
(PWDs) mula sa lalawigan ng Batangas sa
Ciudad Christhia 9 Waves Resort sa San
Mateo, Rizal noong Abril 2 hanggang 5.
Layon ng pagsasanay na mabigyan ng
tamang kaalaman ang mga coordinators ng
iba’t-ibang lokal na pamahalaan, PWDs at
caregivers para alamin ang tamang sukat at

outstanding GAD Focal Point System

LUCENA CITY, Quezon, (PIA)- The provincial
government of Quezon has awarded plaque of
appreciation and cash to local government units
with outstanding gender and development focal
point system through a ceremony at Quezon
Convention Center here.
The recent activity was part of the
provincial women’s month celebration which
was attended by more than 8,000 women mostly
members of Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina
(KALIPI) from 40 towns of Quezon province.
Representative Anna Villaraza Suarez
and Provincial Gender and Development Office
(PGAD) head Ofelia Palayan led the awarding
of plaques and cash prizes to outstanding city/
municipal gender and development focal point
system (MGADFPS) composed of the following:
MGADFPS-Mauban, Quezon (1st class
municipality); MGADFPS- Polillo, Quezon-
3rdclass municipality; MGADFPS- Unisan,
Quezon- 4thclass municipality and MGADFPS-
Agdangan- 5th class municipality. The awardees
received a plaque and a cash prize of P40,000.00.
MGADFPS-Pagbilao, Quezon (1st class
municipality) and MGADFPS- Buenavista (4th
class municipality) were also awarded as first
runner-up and they received a plaque and cash
prize of P35,000.00.
The second runner up was MGADFPS-
Real while the third runner up was MGADFPS-
Tagkawayan, Quezon which received a plaque
and a cash prize of P20,000.00 and P15,000.00
respectively.
Meanwhile, MGADFPS – Unisan
received a special award as best GAD initiative
on child development MGADFPS-Mauban as
best GAD implementer on barangay seal of local
governance.
Awarding of outstanding municipal/city
gender and development is one of the programs
of the provincial government of Quezon and
implemented annually through the provincial
gender and development office.
Palayan said the program aims to promote
gender equality and women empowerment.
“We also implement capacity building
in the different municipalities/cities of Quezon
province to increase awareness on gender and
development.”
She added that the provincial government
has organized a provincial committee against
violence against women , children and cyber
pornography as well as Men Opposed to Violence
Against Women and Children Everywhere
(MOVE)-Quezon to promote gender equality
and women empowerment in the province of

Ayon kay PWD Regional Coordinator
Paulina Calo, napakahalaga ng pagsasanay
na ito sa mga wheelchair users at caregivers
dahil mas maiipaunawa sa kanila ang tamang
paggamit at ang kahalagahan nito.
“Dapat
nating
tanggapin
ang
katotohanan na karamihan sa mga PWDs ay
bahagi na ang wheelchair sa kanilang buhay,
kaya dapat lamang nilang malaman ano ang
kahalagahan nito at tamang pangangalaga
at paggamit upang maging kumportable at
maiwasan ang skin sores dahil sa matagal na
pagkakaupo dito,” ani Calo.
Sinabi naman ni Philippine Society of
Wheelchair Professionals President Ferdiliza
Dandah Garcia na isang porsiyento (1%)
lamang sa populasyon ng bansa ang may
access sa paggamit ng wheelchair.
“Karamihan sa mga wheelchair ay
donasyon mula sa gobyerno at iba pang
pribadong institusyon at hindi sila angkop sa
mga gumagamit lalo na kung ito ay ginawa
para sa malalaking tao at hindi akma sa mga
Asian users tulad ng mga Filipino,” dagdag
pa ni Garcia.
Ilan sa mga isinagawang pagsasanay
sa loob ng apat na araw ang tamang pag-
upo, pagbuhat at paglilipat ng isang disabled
person mula sa wheelchair patungong kama o
higaan at silya. Itinuro din ang pamamaraan
kung paano maiiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng
pressure sores na karaniwang nararanasan
dahil sa maling paggamit ng wheelchair.
Sa kabuuan may 50 katao na ang
nasanay ng DOH kabilang ang naunang 23
mula sa lalawigan ng Laguna at inaasahang
makapag target ito ng 150 PWDs para
sa naturang pagsasanay. (BHABY P. DE

Summit. Dagdag pa niya, mahalaga ang isinagawang
