In some cases, the basketball and football players are well-known before they even get to college because of the publicity surrounding the recruiting process in those two sports.

And unlike basketball and football players, who usually are playing in the NBA or NFL a few months after they are drafted, baseball players selected by major league teams — whether from a four-year college or a two- year program or a high school — spend time, often several seasons, in the minor leagues, toiling in locales where ESPN camera crews seldom venture.

Which brings us to the one player who was able to pull fans to Fall League games: Michael Jordan.
