The Ingenious Mind of Bobby Washington
Orlando Florida isn’t just a home to Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic and cartoon legend Mickey Mouse it’s also where the multi talented Def Jam artist Bobby Washington resides. I caught up with Bobby at his home in Orlando to get the exclusive in depth view and behind the scenes look of a hard working artist.
Talented: Thanks Bobby for sitting down and doing the interview for our magazine.
Bobby Washington: No problem big bruh, Thank you for asking.
Talented: Ok so, where do we get started in your highly decorated but just taking off career? I notice you have released a collection of gospel music records did you first get your taste of the music bug singing in a choir growing up like most dynamic singers and are you still heavily rooted in the church?
Bobby's Washington: I honestly did not grow up singing in church, I went to A Catholic Church When I was young and there isn’t any Real Gospel Singing going on in there! (Bobby Laughs)
I actually came to really know Jesus Later in life as an adult.
Talented: I know all about that brother being the son of a preacher. I got to know Jesus early and frequently. I read that you managed to sell over 120,000 albums before you ever got signed explain the process and determination behind that and was that number a set goal you created?
Bobby Washington: Being honest, Corporate America pushed me into that direction. What I mean By that is, When I was working at a security company, My new boss came in and Cut My Salary From $12 an hour to $7.00 without telling me, It Just reflected on my Paycheck. I felt angry and I knew right then I did not want to let man determine my Livelihood. So that same day I got that pay cut, I went and sold my album that I just got back from the pressing plant and I made 4 sales in 19 minutes at $10 each. So I made $40 in 19 minutes, so it didn't take rocket science for me to realize that I'd rather make $40 in 19 minutes than to make $7.00 an hour. I guess you would say "I Did the Math" (Bobby Laughs)
and I never set a goal as to how many records I want to sell, I just keep pushing UNITS.
