Have You Heard 5Forty Radio

5Forty Radio is Roanoke Virginia’s first and only urban contemporary radio show dedicated to lifting up the community one ear at a time. 5Forty was founded by Randy Riggins Jr. and co founded by Bobby Shepherd and Tim Anderson. The three eager enthusiasts met under a gazebo at a local government housing development in August of 2011.. The three set for hours trying to figure out the perfect strategy to give Roanoke City’s youth something a little more home grown, being that the nearest hip-hop station at that time was in Greensboro North Carolina a rough two hours away. That was ridiculous so Randy, Bobby, and Tim decided to launch a hip-hop radio program out of a once prominent station in Roanoke named WTOY owned by Stan and Barbara Ward. The first show aired on October 3, 2011 which introduced Young Holliday (Bobby Shepherd) and Mz Tootie (Angelique Smith) to the community and it was deemed a big success a local resident said “it’s what the community needs”. 5Forty took the radio waves by storm with Grammy nominated guest like Jonathan Emile B.E.T, reality star Michael McPherson from Master of the Mix, and Roanoke City’s Mayor Bowers all helped propel the 5Forty radio show, straight to the top. It’s almost a year later and the 5Forty radio team continues to grow with new additions such as Mz. Malatto (Casaundra Swain) and Tony Stoavall, both were added to the cast early 2012 Tony for health science and Casaundra as a co host. The 5Forty radio team hopes to continue growing with positive movements throughout the city, various charitable events, and plenty of local support. You can give your support to the 5Forty Radio show every Monday on WTOY 1480am at 5:40pm or Facebook.com/5Forty.
