A s a former justice of the Georgia Supreme Court , I ’ ve had a unique vantage point to see how decisions made in our legal system affect people ’ s lives . This professional experience , along with my years of public service as a jurist and now as a lawyer in private practice , has led me to appreciate the importance of civic participation , especially voting .
While national elections often receive the most attention , elections for the so-called “ lower offices ” frequently have the most significant impact on our lives . These offices , from judges to city council members to court clerks and school board members , are essential
to the functioning of our communities . This makes every election an opportunity to shape our world , no matter how seemingly insignificant . Voting in local elections ensures your voice is heard on issues affecting your neighborhoods , whether it ’ s public safety , schools , infrastructure , or local taxes . Why ? Because elected officials like mayors , city council members , and county commissioners make decisions that directly shape our communities .
Furthermore , judicial elections are essential to preserving the integrity of our courts . Judges are necessary to upholding the rule of law , protecting rights , and administering justice fairly . So , by voting in
