couple struggling with planning their life together while fighting to achieve their very own career goals . There is no doubt the show is set in Atlanta : The Piedmont Driving Club is the desired wedding venue , and there is even a reference to our very own L . Lin Wood .
Instead of preparing the long-planned merger with a German law firm ( whose name “ no one can pronounce or even remember ”), the R . S . V . P . lawyers now deal with a hostile takeover by creatures from the underworld ( what is worse , you might ask ?). And as they are slaving away for Ting & Loudly , under the relentless knout of the witch and wizard who cannot understand the living ’ s need for sleep , they even find themselves longing for the days serving R . S . V . P .’ s ( slightly less soulless ) human partners . In their misery , the lawyers reach out to a team of consultants who , expectedly , provide lots of boilerplate promises and assurances , companysponsored events , and ineffective solutions , but – cue evil laughter - no way out of R . S . V . P .’ s contract with Ting & Loudly .

“ The Nightmare on 14th Street ” was an absolute joy to watch , because many scenes “ hit home ” and made you laugh and cringe at the same time . Yes , there were a lot of clichés and stereotypes but we all must admit that they are , to a certain degree , true , and seeing ourselves portrayed in such a charming way cannot but leave us with a chuckle . If anything , the “ Bardians ” taught us to appreciate the summer associates – and always learn their names .
Just as the lawyers are ready to give up comes a glimmer of hope : They learn that the way to end their nightmare is to have the summer associate repeat the spell and thereby undo it . Easier said than done though , because none of the lawyers had bothered to remember her ( or the other summer associates ’) name , let alone would know where to find her . Well , except for the hard-working , under-appreciated female attorney who does actually run the summer associate program . She reveals that the girl they so desperately seek is no one else but the Starbucks barista at the Whole Foods market downstairs who serves the lawyers their coffee every morning without being noticed or receiving thanks . And , of course , her name is Buffy . Desperate for the young lawyer ’ s help , the lawyers offer her instant partnership in return for reversing the spell – which consequently fulfils its promise .
The remarkably creative story is told in witty , pun-filled dialogues , and of course songs . Who knew that our Atlanta lawyers , professors , and judges have such strong , beautiful voices ? We hear , for example , a stirring rendition of “ Shallow ” ( here : “ Shadow ”), an adapted version of “ The House of The Rising Sun ” (“ The Firm on 14th Street ”), and “ Tomorrow .” As an ensemble , the all-lawyer cast impressed the audience with complete choreographies , carefully crafted costumes and props , and even a surprise tap dance that elicited cheers from the crowd . Moving confidently and effortlessly across the stage , the cast delivered a high-quality performance that was beautifully matched by the alllawyer band ( Norman Barnett , Peter Followill , Nowell Berreth , George Coleman , Jr ., Dorothy Cornwell , and The Hon . Scot McAfee ) whose tunes visibly and audibly carried , energized , and boosted the stage action . There was no way to tell who had more fun – the performers or the audience . www . atlantabar . org THE ATLANTA LAWYER 19
