S pring is in the air ! As we sift through the final days of colder weather , we slide on into the blooming flowers , increased daylight , and developed plans of “ spring cleaning ” and outdoor activities that comes with this wonderful season .

As lawyers , we are well known for our busy schedules and stressful lives . Our work takes over our days and often nights , with no relief or help . For that reason , I believe it is that much more important for us in the legal profession to support each other and encourage one another to take advantage of the warm , spring weather coming in and do something for YOU !
The Young Lawyers Division (“ YLD ”) Wellness Committee focuses on not only the physical health of lawyers , but our mental health and wellness too . It is way too easy to get busy , stressed and overwhelmed in this profession , but the reality is that we have to also take care of ourselves . When we let cases , clients , and other people take precedence over our own needs , we are no longer operating at our maximum potential , thereby doing a disservice to ourselves , as well as our clients , family and friends . So , in the spirit of the season , let ’ s take this time of the year to do some spring cleaning on ourselves .
Spring is always a time of year where we celebrate getting back outdoors and soaking up the Vitamin D . A great activity to do this time of year is hike . Georgia is covered with hiking trails from the mountains to the coast . Whether the last time you worked out was in college , or if you are that gym buff that sandwiches work between your morning and afternoon routines , there are trails for everyone ! In the fall of last year , the YLD Wellness Committee hosted a hike at High Falls State Park in Jackson , Georgia . The hikers met at 9:30 A . M ., and were on the trails by 10:00 A . M . Participating in a group activity like that helps to hold each other accountable because as we all know , half the battle of physical exercise is getting yourself there . Once we are there , we enjoy the activity and reap the rewards of sweating out the stress of the day , but we have to get there first .
Holding each other accountable , in general , or having an “ accountability partner ” is also a great tool to eliminate
