I considered myself environmentally conscientious until we had children , at which point , the amount of waste we created increased substantially . With diapers , wipes , the amount of laundry we were doing , the amount food we were wasting on picky , uncoordinated eaters , I felt we were single-handedly contributing to the demise of the planet . As I watched yet another plate of food hit the floor , I thought to myself : “ I have to do something about all of this wasted food .” That was back in late 2018 – when my kids were younger and significantly less coordinated at eating – and when they were wasting so much food . We would make them something for breakfast , for example , and only one or two bites would be consumed . As many times as I tried to re-serve those items , there came a time where it was unsafe to do so , and the food ended up in the garbage . It was at that time that I researched composting and located CompostNow . ( www . compostnow . org ). Composting started my journey as a self-proclaimed amateur environmentalist .

In my opinion , composting is simple ( if you use a service like CompostNow ) and a great way to ease into making a positive impact . CompostNow ( there may be other services in the Atlanta area ) provides each customer with a collection bucket and collects the bucket weekly . There is a monthly charge for the service . All of your food waste goes in the bin – uneaten food , fruit peels , egg shells , meat bones , coffee grinds , the list goes on ; for those concerned about smell or critters – don ’ t be , the there is a lid and it closes very tightly . CompostNow also accepts pizza boxes ( those are left outside the bin ).
