Estate Planning & Probate Section Winter / Spring Update
The Estate Planning & Probate Section anticipates a busy Spring season !
On January 10 , 2024 we hosted our first-ever overseas speaker : Dr . Niklas Schmidt , Esq . of Wolf Theiss delivered a comprehensive talk on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools by Estate Planning Attorneys live ( via Zoom ) from Vienna , Austria . The presentation , which featured demonstrations showing the capabilities of ChatGPT , was both informative and entertaining . A special thanks to Sections Director Karen English for coordinating the event and facilitating the successful Zoom transmission .
Upcoming events include :
• A joint social in March with the Elder Law Section and other fiduciary / estate planning groups from the State Bar and North Fulton Bar . We ’ re considering a venue in Alpharetta for the mixer and hoping for good weather .
• Next in line will be our Probate Court Judges Panel , slated for late April via Zoom . This event was launched three years ago to enable our members to keep abreast of the numerous procedural changes in metro Atlanta ’ s probate courts caused by the pandemic . The judges ’ willingness to share practice tips and procedures for success in their courtrooms has easily made this our signature event , and we look forward to hosting it for the third year in a row . We thank all of the judges who will participate this year for their time and contributions .
• Our final event of the year will be the Speakers and Sponsors dinner , typically held in mid-to late May . We host this event annually to thank all of our speakers and our sponsors for their participation and support throughout the year . This event provides a wonderful opportunity for our speakers , sponsors and Board members to get to know one another over a sumptuous
meal . We look forward to this end-of-season celebration .
