The Bankruptcy Section has had a busy fall , and we are looking forward to an exciting slate of events in Spring 2024 .
Past Events
CLE on Mortgage and Escrow Issues The Bankruptcy Section held a breakfast CLE entitled “ Escrow 101-103 and the Impact of COVID on the Treatment of Escrow in a Bankruptcy Case ” the morning of November 10 , 2023 at the Office of Melissa Davey , Standing Chapter 13 Trustee . Thirty attendees heard from Michael McCormick of McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce , LLC , as he shared his expertise on the proper handling of escrow accounts during bankruptcy proceedings , among other things .
Holiday Party with MACBAG
Last year ’ s joint holiday party with Metro Atlanta Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney Group ( MACBAG ) Holiday Party was such a success , the Bankruptcy Section decided to do it again ! We kicked off the holiday season on November 28 , 2023 at Petite Violette . Eighty members and guests , including professionals from across the community and several Bankruptcy Court Judges , came together to merrily mix and mingle over French favorites and bountiful beverages . Attendees also toasted Brandi Kirkland , the 2023 recipient of the MACBAG Louis C . Brown , Jr . Award .
Sandwich Project Community Service Event
Bankruptcy Section members , families , and friends joined together at the offices of Rountree Leitman Klein & Geer , LLC on December 10 , 2023 for a sandwich build for The Sandwich Project . The Sandwich Project is a 501 ( c )( 3 ) non-profit organization whose volunteers assemble and donate fresh , homemade sandwiches each week for immediate consumption to meet the food scarcity needs in Metro Atlanta . Attendees brought
bags of fresh bread and high quality meats and cheeses to make nearly 300 sandwiches , which were delivered to The Sandwich Project .
Upcoming Events
The 2023 Year in Review will be held on February 14 , 2024 at the Capital City Club . This seminar is a highlight for attendees and provides practitioners with a complete and succinct summary of the most important bankruptcy and commercial law case developments from the last year . Join judges and seasoned attorneys as they discuss all the cases you need to know . The panelists will review Supreme Court precedents and other cases grouped by topic , covering both consumer and business bankruptcy issues . This annual presentation is jampacked with information and insight - you won ' t want to miss it !
Registration will open at 8:30 a . m ., followed by two panels on bankruptcy law ( business and consumer cases ), a luncheon , and one final panel on commercial law .
