Judge Ward later became a Judge on the Superior Court of Georgia where he served from 1977-1979 until President Jimmy Carter nominated him to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia where he became first African American judge for that district. According to Wikipedia, Judge Ward“ became known for his efforts to challenge the racially discriminatory practices at the University of Georgia School of Law.” Judge Ward took senior status in 1993 until his death in 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia.
