I am super excited to “ welcome ” everyone back from the Summer ! The Atlanta Bar , its Foundation , and its Sections have so many events planned for our members and their families this bar year . First up was The Legal Runaround 5K Race , Walk and Tot Trot . This is the Foundation ’ s annual September event held in partnership with the Atlanta Police Department where the proceeds benefit the Police Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to children of slain or disable police officers in various counties throughout the metro Atlanta region . For the first time , this race was held at the Westside Reservoir Park . I had a great time participating in this event and connecting with so many of our members ! Next up , we will have another exciting family event around Football ! On October 28 , 2023 , please join us as the Association will host a viewing of the Georgia / Florida game . Whether you are a Bulldog or Gator ’ s fan , one thing is certain – a good time will be had by all ! Be on the lookout for additional details and registration information . Of course , do not forget all the exciting breakfasts , lunches , CLEs , and happy hours our Sections ’ leadership teams have planned to ensure our members remain up to date on trends in their fields while building collegiality . I hope to see you at any number of events the Association , its Foundation and its Sections will host this Bar year !
Speaking of collegiality and the importance of “ working together ,” this issue highlights the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution . ADR has become an effective tool for settling conflicts outside of court given the rise in expenses associated with litigation , the backlogs courts continue to face , and the stress of drawn-out legal battles . Additionally , it seems commerical contracts , now , often include ADR provisions outlining the process for how the parties will resolve their disputes . As a litigator , I have witnessed - first-hand - the advantages to engaging in ADR . Made even more convenient , mediators and arbitrators have continued to evolve by using online forums to settle disputes near and far considering the COVID-19 pandemic .
Whether you are a corporate lawyer or litigator , this issue will help you advise your clients on how to best efficiently resolve any disputes that may arise . Trust me , I ’ m a litigator ! :)
