Hockey Leagues

Hockey has been at its strongest this year in Key stage 3. Participation levels are certainly at their highest with at least 20 students attending practices from each year group which has meant that regular fixtures could be organised and played. All 3 teams 7’s, 8’s and 9’s have buckets full of talent in their squad and proven just how talented they were when playing some difficult fixtures.

It has to be said that this was the most successful year that the Year 9 girls have experienced in the U14 County Hockey League. Sheer determination and drive to not only enhance their skills but also play competitive hockey was shown by every single member of the team. Not only do they work well on the pitch but they also work co-operatively off the pitch and have never let their heads drop in any match that we have seen them play to date. We have had a couple of injuries along the way which has left the team a player down but once again they have fought to the bitter end and achieved some cracking results, 6 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses. The commitment and dedication of these students is commendable and something that we hope to see continue. Well done Girls!

In order to continue to enhance the girls playing ability we have now organised a Monday night netball club to be ran via funding from England Netball. Those girls in Y7, Y8 and Y9 who have shown an excellent levelof commitment since September to the school netball club have been chosen to take part in this fantastic opportunity.

It doesn’t just stop there however, the Year 9’s 10’s and 11’s have also been involved in a netball league set up and hosted at John Spence for the full season on Thursday evenings, commitment by all three year groups have once again been commendable and some great matches have been played. Not only do the players commit to after school fixtures but they have also given up their own lunch times to get some valuable practice.

Netball Leagues Years 7,8,9,10 & 11

What another fantastic season in terms of netball commitment from all year groups at John Spence. The Monday night leagues for the Y7’s and Y8’s have been growing and growing once again this year and some excellent netball has been played in a friendly and competitive environment against other schools in the local authority. All of the girls involved have developed their netball skills from the Monday lunch time practices and then played numerous fixtures on Monday nights.

As part of Year 11 GCSE PE coursework Ellen Fittes and Adele Eglington assisted with the running of the Y7 and Y8 Christmas Netball Tournament 2013 where they displayed some fantastic leadership skills and qualities whilst doing so.
