YOUR FIRST WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE It’s all in your mind…. Just like any other goal or dream that you have. That’s where it starts. When making a decision to become healthier by losing weight, you best believe that the battle is going to be in your mind. You must win that battle before you get the body you want. You might be thinking that this is another “will your way to success lecture”, but in fact, it isn’t. When it comes to weight loss, will power may never be enough to bring you success. What you need is a long term plan. A long-term plan will bring long term results. Just think. How long does it take to write or produce an entire album? Does it not take hard work and consistency? Do other team players need to be brought in such as sound engineers, graphics designers, photographers, and a marketing team? Do you just show up in the studio a few weeks for a couple of months and expect to put out a number one album on the charts? No! And…. You’ve probably heard this saying, “Just like it took X months to put it on, it will take X months to take it off”. Well this is very true. You put weight on day after day, making choice after choice until finally you wake up and realize you’re bigger. And so in the battle to lose weight, it has to be fought day after day, choice after choice. For years. So. How do you win the mind battle of losing weight? Well, first you take a mental assessment of how ready you are to start a weight loss program. Ask yourself: *Do I REALLY want to be healthy and sexier? If so, how bad? *Am I ready to change the dynamics of my relationships and challenge people who may want me to stay the same person? *Am I ready to change my life? Why? When it comes to asking these questions, unfortunately, many people don’t even make it beyond the beginning weeks of any weight loss plan because they haven’t honestly taken a mental inventory of their motivations for losing weight, which is why the New Year’s resolutions don’t last…. Ask yourself these questions and write them in a journal where you can be honest, or reflect them with a trusted individual. Do some soul searching to make sure losing weight is what you REALLY want to do. Try to figure out what’s holding you back. Do some soul searching. Write a pros and cons list to starting a weight loss program. If the answers aren’t glaring at you and you cannot see your mental blocks, locate a therapist who specializes in food challenges so you can get beyond the mental blocks holding you back. After you’ve done that, then you need to equip your mind with the right knowledge you need to lose weight. Stay tuned for the next article for the next challenge…. 61
