Q: What do you think are the factors that lead to learners taking a gap year?

Sfiso Sambo: Financial issues, most students do not come from financially stable homes and have to sit out because they cannot afford what they want to study and have to choose a second option which is not easy. Other students only want to go to varsities and not colleges.

Paballo Majela: Undecided goals, not having the much needed funds and ‘lol’ others just sit for fun

Q: Why do you think students struggle with when it comes to career choices?

Sfiso Sambo: Being in a mist of identity crisis and some people struggle to choose because many alternatives are open and they end up not knowing which one makes the cut.

Paballo Majela: Students do not research. They should research and look at their strengths and weaknesses and then make an informed decision

.

Q: What are the dangers of a gap year?

Sfiso Sambo: After taking a gap year, you are lost and your brain muscles have been too relaxed. So it can be harder to find the motivation to go back to school even after the year. Some people get jobs and then money ties them down.

Paballo Majela: Pregnancy is an issue for females who are just staying at home, and for boys they can easily get involved in crime. As time can be dangerous when you do not have something to do.

So there it is people, hope this article helps you in a small way and let us not get carried away and go with the flow. Choosing a career is important and not a group decision among you and your friends it is your future. Make the choice that will help you be closer to your dreams.
