SUPERCHARGED
T
he viability of electrical vehicle charging stations in
shopping centers is yesterday’s news, but Broadway
Sydney has given its new installation some added
cachet. The Aussie mall has unveiled an eight-bay
Tesla Supercharger site, the only one in its immediate
catchment. The addition, which followed months of
community research, was in response to rising consumer
demand for more sustainable modes of transportation.
“Our customer base is changing with more and more
opting for sustainable transport options and we are
adjusting our services to match,” said center manager,
Justine Saltmarsh.
“The convenience of the Tesla Superchargers
accompanied with two hours free parking means
customers can really relax and enjoy all Broadway has on
offer, including the extensive dining, beauty, and fashion
options on L2.”
Broadway Sydney also offers bays for all models of
e-vehicles, part of the 30 stations that Mirvac Retail
launched late last year across its properties in New South
Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. And more changes are
coming portfolio-wide. According to the company, the
charging bays represent just one of the ways that it is
reimagining the use of its resources and implementing a
new transport master plan that will better reflect the new
reality of urban living.
At Broadway Sydney, this greater picture is taking shape
in the form of a Green Travel Plan that the center has put
together to support its staff, tenants, and shoppers in
adopting more sustainable habits. It covers public transit,
cycling clubs, and the Go Get car-sharing service.
