Stone County , Missouri , is one of the state ’ s most southern counties with Arkansas at its south border . Founded in 1851 , Stone County is named after War of 1812 veteran William Stone , and not for the heavily rocky earth that this area is built upon . Stone County is long in size , totaling 511 square miles . There are three distinct regions of Stone County : agricultural , central , and lake . Each region not only offers differing landscapes , but also different ways of life . You can ride horses and ride a boat without traveling outside Stone County .
Lake Region
Table Rock Lake covers roughly 10 % of Stone County , however its economic impact to the area is significant . Table Rock Lake was created by the damming of the White River , completed in 1959 . The lake itself covers 5 counties and two states ; however , the majority is located in Stone County . The communities of Indian Point and Kimberling City can be found along the lake ’ s 800 miles of shoreline . Thanks to Table Rock Lake , tourism is the top business industry in Stone County .
Agricultural Region
The area of Stone County located at the top border and heading towards the center is known for its agriculture and for creating one of our chief industries . There are over 600 farms , using more than 100,000 acres in Stone County . Livestock operations make up over 90 % of farms . The two largest communities in the agricultural region of Stone County are Crane and Galena .
Central Region
As you continue southward through Stone County , you ’ ll come to towns like Reeds Spring and Branson West . This area is a business district hub and main thoroughfare connecting the county to areas like Branson to the east and Springfield to the north .
Branson West Airport is a city-owned , public-use airport located two nautical miles west of the central business district of the City of Branson West . The airport is also known as Emerson Field , named for Robert Emerson , an aviation pioneer of the region . Branson West is a general aviation airport designed for private and charter aircraft . The airport was built on 200 acres with an additional 40 acres for runway protection zones . Branson West Airport resides at an elevation of 1,348 feet ( 411 m ) above mean sea level .
