Remembering DICK MARTIN, CLASS OF 1970
A standout athlete and respected member of Saco and the TA community, Richard A. Martin, 72, passed away on December 23, 2024.
A self-employed building contractor for 31 years, Dick was a skilled finish carpenter and craftsman. After Dick retired from his business, he spent several years working for the OOB School system.
A lifelong sports fan, Dick excelled in baseball and basketball, and was inducted into the TA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021. He was proud that his daughters and stepdaughters played sports at TA, and was one of their biggest fans. Dick coached the Thornton girls’ softball team for nine years. Niece Jessica( Beaudoin) Hamilton’ 05 was one of his players.“ He was an amazing coach and person,” she says.“ He was intense and always expected your best effort, making so many of us rise to the occasion as players. At the same time, he was warm and celebrated our successes as players and people whenever possible.”
Dick also played men’ s softball, and umpired middle school and high school girls’ softball. He loved freshwater fishing with friends and
