TA ' s Athletic Complex Capital Campaign : BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING !
PROJECT UPDATE Phase One of the capital project wrapped up this summer , as TA ’ s Maintenance team moved to a new building at the back corner of campus . The existing building at Hill Stadium will now be transformed into a new Athletic Center , housing strength and conditioning equipment , cardio machines , and space for wellness . This process ( Phase Two ), is underway and renovations can begin once permitting is completed .
At the same time , we are working to secure permitting for the construction of the new fieldhouse ( Phase Three ). We are hoping for a spring 2024 groundbreaking celebration ! We ’ ve selected Benchmark Construction as the General Contractor for the construction of the fieldhouse . This is a huge step forward as we work to get shovels in the ground and make this facility a reality for our students and the Saco community .
FUNDRAISING CONTINUES Construction and material costs have risen significantly since the project planning began . While we surpassed our original $ 3 million goal , an additional $ 500,000 is needed to offset these increases . As you may know , Thornton Academy does not receive tax-payer funding in support of capital projects . We must rely on the generosity of our alumni , friends , parents , and community foundations and businesses to fund new construction and maintain our campus .
We are excited to announce that we have received a $ 100,000 , 1:2 matching grant from the Edward E . Ford Foundation . These funds will specifically be used to renovate and purchase equipment for the new Athletic Center - creating an opportunity to re-envision and develop TA ’ s wellness curriculum , benefitting the entire student body as well as student athletes . The matching $ 200,000 must be raised by April 29 , 2024 .
