Changes in the works as Royal finally clinches
the Nairobi League Shield

he 33 year wait is finally over!
It was a case of grit, patience,
endurance and stratagem.
The Royal Nairobi Golf Club is finally
home to the coveted Nairobi District
Golf League Shield.
Team Royal
the amateur ranks in the Tannahill
Shield competition, the Simbas have
been lacking strategy to translate this
success to the Nairobi District Golf
League. But it has been long coming.
Critics might point to the change
of rules as having had a hand
in Royal’s fortunes. Among the
changes introduced this year was the
exclusion of the tier system which
did away with the erstwhile leagues-
In one of the tightest contests ever
witnessed in the league’s history,
Royal clinched the crown on the
last day of the competition having
started the day in the second
position behind perennial runners
up Sigona Golf Club. On match
day 11, all the stats were clearly
in favour of the Simbas as they
were pitted against whipping boys
Ruiru Sports Club while Sigona
had the unenviable task of beating
defending champions Kenya Railway
Golf Club at the tight “Reli” course.
As expected, the results went the
Simbas way as Railway Lions added
misery to Sigona with a resounding
win.
It has been a long journey for Royal
to get to the top. Despite dominating
