Arranged competition over the Golden Gate bridge: During the Oracle Open World of 2017, SYSCO
arranged a competition for runners at the legendary bridge at the bay entrance of San Francisco.
Oracle Open World
The annual Oracle Open World
(OOW) IT conference in
San Francisco, brings together
thousands of customers,
suppliers and partners.
As usual, SYSCO was also participating
this year, and joined the events together
with some of its customers and employ-
ees. Besides the professional program
that Oracle arranges for its participants,
there are also a number of social activ-
ities and events. Here, Oracle tries to
facilitate exchange of experience and
networking, as participants can also ben-
efit from the collections.
New to this year was that SYSCO also
acted as sponsor of one of Oracle’s
events. The company was thus profiled
in a separate race that took place over
the legendary bridge Golden Gate at the
entrance to San Francisco.
This was a wonderful experience for

both SYSCO employees and other par-
ticipants.
Among the professional updates during
this year’s OOW, there was a lot of
focus on cloud-based solutions. Oracle
has launched its autonomous database
solution, and it attracted a lot of atten-
tion. The autonomous capacity, ensures
that the databases more or less maintain
themselves, with automatic updates for
both operational and safety considera-
tions.
Christopher Lloyd, has worked with
Oracle’s technology and databases since
1995, and has been the IT Director of
Bluegarden in recent years. In particular,
he has worked extensively with Oracle’s
products, compared to scaling possibili-
ties, which means, among other things,
that he has a great interest in what is
happening in cloud-based solutions.
– Bluegarden has one of the country’s
largest agreements with Oracle Norway,
and I therefore work a lot with license
follow-up and administration, says Lloyd.
He adds that he has a close relationship
with SYSCO, and in this connection was
also invited to participate in this year’s
Oracle Open World. It became his third
participation in San Francisco.
– This is the biggest collection in Oracle,
and I have to say that I find it incredibly
exciting to get so close to the core of the
company, and see what they are working
on and what they are saying about future
developments.
Lloyd found it particularly exciting to see
and hear Larry Ellison, one of the IT in-
dustry’s major icons within the field of
technology development, sharing his
views on status and development. Lloyd
also highlights some unexpected presen-
tations from the student communities,
as something he enjoyed from the confe-
rence.
– Oracle has opened up for students to
access their technology to develop com-
munity-friendly IT solutions, and I must
say it was very impressive to see what they
had managed to achieve, Lloyd praises.
He also participated in a number of sales
presentations and demonstrations, and
also found it very interesting to hear
the stories from experiences of large
companies, sharing how they have used
Oracle’s technology to bring about effi-
ciency improvements and improvements
in their organizations.
– Technology develops rapidly, and OOW
therefore provides the opportunity to
gather many useful impressions and
experiences that can be taken back to
work here in Norway, says Bluegarden’s
Christopher Lloyd.
