Arranged competition over the Golden Gate bridge: During the Oracle Open World of 2017, SYSCO arranged a competition for runners at the legendary bridge at the bay entrance of San Francisco. Oracle Open World The annual Oracle Open World (OOW) IT conference in San Francisco, brings together thousands of customers, suppliers and partners. As usual, SYSCO was also participating this year, and joined the events together with some of its customers and employ- ees. Besides the professional program that Oracle arranges for its participants, there are also a number of social activ- ities and events. Here, Oracle tries to facilitate exchange of experience and networking, as participants can also ben- efit from the collections. New to this year was that SYSCO also acted as sponsor of one of Oracle’s events. The company was thus profiled in a separate race that took place over the legendary bridge Golden Gate at the entrance to San Francisco. This was a wonderful experience for 8 SYSCO – Good stories! 2017 both SYSCO employees and other par- ticipants. Among the professional updates during this year’s OOW, there was a lot of focus on cloud-based solutions. Oracle has launched its autonomous database solution, and it attracted a lot of atten- tion. The autonomous capacity, ensures that the databases more or less maintain themselves, with automatic updates for both operational and safety considera- tions. Christopher Lloyd, has worked with Oracle’s technology and databases since 1995, and has been the IT Director of Bluegarden in recent years. In particular, he has worked extensively with Oracle’s products, compared to scaling possibili- ties, which means, among other things, that he has a great interest in what is happening in cloud-based solutions. – Bluegarden has one of the country’s largest agreements with Oracle Norway, and I therefore work a lot with license follow-up and administration, says Lloyd. He adds that he has a close relationship with SYSCO, and in this connection was also invited to participate in this year’s Oracle Open World. It became his third participation in San Francisco. – This is the biggest collection in Oracle, and I have to say that I find it incredibly exciting to get so close to the core of the company, and see what they are working on and what they are saying about future developments. Lloyd found it particularly exciting to see and hear Larry Ellison, one of the IT in- dustry’s major icons within the field of technology development, sharing his views on status and development. Lloyd also highlights some unexpected presen- tations from the student communities, as something he enjoyed from the confe- rence. – Oracle has opened up for students to access their technology to develop com- munity-friendly IT solutions, and I must say it was very impressive to see what they had managed to achieve, Lloyd praises. He also participated in a number of sales presentations and demonstrations, and also found it very interesting to hear the stories from experiences of large companies, sharing how they have used Oracle’s technology to bring about effi- ciency improvements and improvements in their organizations. – Technology develops rapidly, and OOW therefore provides the opportunity to gather many useful impressions and experiences that can be taken back to work here in Norway, says Bluegarden’s Christopher Lloyd.
